PROS AND CONS OF SEARCH ENGINE EVALUATOR JOBS
Search engine evaluator jobs may seem like a simple niche to get into, but it is not for everyone. Consider the following pros and cons below to help you determine if you’re a great fit for the job.
PROS
- It is non-voice. If you don’t like speaking to people or the very thought of it makes you nervous, then search engine evaluator jobs might be ideal for you. You only report to your agency or company, and all you deal with are results from search engines
- Flexibility. While some companies might require you to work for a minimum number of hours per week, the schedule is mostly up to you. You can also take your work anywhere. Also, in some instances, you can work with just your smartphone.
- No special skills or degree required. For the most part, you only need to be internet-savvy and have some knowledge of the internet culture to qualify for this job. You don’t need any fancy college degree or present any certification to apply.
CONS
- It doesn’t guarantee consistent work. There may be times when you find yourself not working on anything at all, so that means possibly missing a paycheck.
- You need to complete the minimum hours required. In most companies, you need to work at least 20 hours per week. If you feel like you can’t devote at least this much of your time per week towards the job, then it probably is not for you
SEARCH ENGINE EVALUATOR SALARY: HOW MUCH CAN YOU MAKE?
Web search evaluator jobs pay quite decently. According to Glassdoor, search engine evaluator salary hovers between $11-$15, depending on which company you work for. It also pays to remember that some companies require you to work for minimum hours per week, while others only count the hours they estimate you’ll finish the job (which means any number of hours worked outside the prescribed period will not be credited towards your pay).
But overall, for an online job that doesn’t require any special skill or degree, or even search engine evaluation training, this seems like a promising way to make supplemental income.
HOW TO BECOME A WEB SEARCH EVALUATOR?
As mentioned, there are no special skills required to become a web search evaluator but most companies give applicants an open book exam to determine if they are suitable to the jobs
I’ve learned that applicants are given a study guide that contains all the guidelines they need to become effective search engine evaluators.
If you failed the exam, though, you might be able to still retake the test after a specific period of time.
Once you’re hired, expect to sign a non-disclosure agreement or NDA with your company. You might start working right away, or wait until the company assigns with some work.
Work is not always consistent, so there may be some lean days as you work as a web search evaluator. If the company is happy with your performance, they may renew your contract for another work period.

Choosing the right company is essential to your success as a web search evaluator. Different companies have different policies, and most of them will not allow you to freelance with another competing company even if you’re only doing part-time work

Your job with iSoftstone as an evaluator is to assess results on search pages and determine their quality and relevancy based on the supplied criteria. You have to work at least 10 hours a week, and no more than 25 hours a week. The average pay is $13/hour.
The upside of working with soft stone is that they provide training while you work, so you actually get real-life experience on your job, and still get paid for the hours you worked. You can pick your own work schedule as well.
LIONBRIDGE
Lionbridge is an Irish company that hires web assessors, internet analysts and social media evaluators and raters. They use these terms instead of web search evaluators. Raters at Lionbridge are tasked to rate advertisements so that brands and companies can improve the
Evaluators at Lionbridge are paid according to their countries like that of Appen. Asian workers tend to less per hour than their American counterparts. The work is also limited between 10 to 20 hours per week, and payments are released once a month.

Web search evaluation seems like the perfect entry-point for people who are internet-savvy and have wide general knowledge. You don’t need a special skill to get hired, although you have to be good with details and research.
